QPS overhauls back-office system with TechnologyOne

The Queensland Parliamentary Service (QPS) engaged Brisbane-based TechnologyOne to replace its core back-office system with an alternative based on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model. The deployment was completed in eight months using TechnologyOne’s SaaS Plus implementation approach.

The SaaS Plus model places the responsibility for implementing, operating, updating and supporting the solution on TechnologyOne for a single annual fee.

The QPS provides admin and support services to all 93 members of the Queensland Parliament, departmental employees and parliamentary committees. The service needed to upgrade to a reliable and modern system to be able to continue to deliver on its mission of ensuring government transparency and public trust at an affordable cost.

Clerk of Parliament Neil Laurie said TechnologyOne is helping the company achieve its vision of being an innovative leader in the delivery of parliamentary services.

“SaaS Plus has allowed us to quickly leverage the advantages of the TechnologyOne suite, streamlining our processes and enhancing efficiency, enabling us to provide improved service to our stakeholders,” he said. “We are proud to be able to partner with a local Queensland provider that understands the business needs of the public sector.”

TechnologyOne CEO Ed Chung said the company developed the SaaS Plus model to address the core causes of the tech wrecks that so often cause big IT projects to blow out in time and cost.

“For too long, government innovation has been stifled by parties peddling outdated models to solve modern problems. SaaS Plus takes the risk that is normally placed on the customer when implementing a new solution and places the onus on us to deliver on time and within budget,” he said.

TechnologyOne’s homegrown solutions are in use by more than 230 federal and state government departments and agencies across Australia and New Zealand.
