NSW to procure services from Digital Marketplace

New South Wales has become the first state in the country to arrange to source ICT services from the federal Digital Marketplace.

Under the arrangement, NSW government agencies will use the marketplace to procure service contracts in areas including web performance analysis, user-experience design and digital transformation advisory services.

Martin Hoffman, secretary of the NSW Department of Finance Services and Innovation, commented that with NSW hosting more than 60% of all start-ups in the nation, “it is entirely appropriate that we be the first state in the country to embrace the Digital Marketplace”.

The federal Digital Transformation Office established the Digital Marketplace last year as part of efforts to improve government’s ICT services procurement practices and make it easier for SMEs to capture a share of the government’s $5 billion annual ICT budget.

The marketplace was initially designed for federal government agencies, but is now attracting the attention of state governments.

The initiative is also compliant with NSW government procurement policies, and aligns with the state government’s recent commitment to embrace digital technologies to improve the quality of services offered to residents.
