Vic govt learns from Estonia on DX
Victorian Special Minister of State Gavin Jennings has met with digital government leaders in Estonia to gain insights to help boost the state’s digital capabilities.
During his visit Jennings visited the e-Estonia Showroom, an executive briefing centre set up to share the success story of Estonia’s digital transformation with global policy makers and corporate executives.
Jennings also gained insights into data sharing, cybersecurity, and e-procurement from the Estonian Government, the United Kingdom Cabinet Office, Germany’s Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Berlin’s Service Innovation lab. These insights will be used to help shape the Victorian government’s own digital transformation.
“In just a short period of time Estonia has become the world’s leading digital nation, and it’s important that we take the time to learn from them so that we can deliver the modern digital services the community expects,” Jennings said.
“This is about improving government services for hard-working families, so they don’t have to waste time trawling though dozens of websites and hotlines. Victoria is already the digital and tech capital of Australia and we want the public service to share in this fast-growing sector.”
The state government’s current digital strategy is focused on improving information and data sharing between agencies, delivering better digital platforms and improving the capabilities of the public service.
Jennings said the government’s Service Victoria initiative will modernise the delivery of high-volume government transactions including car registration. Service Victoria is on track to launch its first digital transactions next year. The government also recently introduced a new e-procurement process.
