Austroads contracts MATTR to enable mobile driver's licences
Austroads has contracted MATTR to provide infrastructure to support the delivery of mobile driver’s licences (mDLs).
Under the agreement, MATTR will deliver digital trust service (DTS) capabilities that can support multiple types of digital credentials. The DTS will act as the core of the mDL ecosystem across Australia, which will allow mDLs to be securely verified across any jurisdiction in Australia and even worldwide.
MATTR has already worked closely with Austroads to help design the first phase of the project, a pre-production version of the DTS system, based on the MATTR VII platform.
Austroads Chief Executive Dr Geoff Allan said the collaboration will be key to the project.
“This partnership with MATTR marks a significant milestone in the harmonisation of the digital credential landscape in Australia and supports secure and privacy-preserving validation of digital credentials in line with open international standards,” he said.
MATTR VII is designed to power DTS for business and government based on TrustTech capabilities. MATTR CEO Claire Barber said the company is thrilled to be partnering with Austroads on the project.
“This is an exciting initiative, led by Austroads and enabled by MATTR, to increase convenience and confidence based on high assurance, high trust interactions,” she said. “MATTR platforms will provide foundational capabilities to preview the future of an interoperable mobile driving licence ecosystem throughout Australia and globally.”
