Disaster Resilience Knowledge Hub launched
The Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience has launched a new knowledge hub that will act as a source of expertise for government organisations and communities working to prepare for natural disasters.
The hub currently provides access to resources including the Emergency Management Library and Australian Journal of Emergency Management collections, as well as multiple disaster resilience and emergency management handbooks and manuals.
It covers categories including disaster types, the history of significant disasters that have occurred in or around Australia, case studies and stories from resources, organisations and individuals and dedicated resources for education and professional development.
The hub also includes an interactive disaster map allowing users to find disasters across Australia, including fires, cyclones, earthquakes, landslides, storms and floods. The map also includes man-made disasters including biosecurity incidents, industrial accidents, bombings and other major criminal incidents and transport accidents.
More resources will be regularly added, including contributions from emergency services agencies and Australian and international organisations.
The new hub was launched by Minister for Justice and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Counter Terrorism Michael Keenan.
He said the repository “will be an invaluable resource for students, teachers, researchers, historians and emergency services staff and volunteers to better understand lessons from the past and ways to mitigate risks into the future”.
