QPS establishes Mobile Capability Centre

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has established a new Mobile Capability Centre (MCC) aimed at providing police officers with innovative mobile technologies to help perform their daily duties.

The MCC will employ 32 contractors, staff members and police working on mobile services for frontline officers, and will be capable of scaling up to a workforce of 66 people to meet specific project demands.

It has a budget allocation of $16 million, which covers ongoing development as well as a fleet of 5400 iPads running the dedicated QLiTE platform, which allows for access to any relevant police database from the field.

QLiTE devices were first introduced under the Mobile Services Program, which commenced in 2013. The MCC initiative is the successor to this program and will develop additional enhancements to the QLiTE platform.

The Queensland Government has committed to providing a further 1400 QLiTE devices to the police service.

“The MCC facilities provide assistance to frontline officers so they are able to access critical information and perform key policing tasks which will ensure they spend less time on administration and can remain in the field longer to keep the community safe,” QPS Commissioner Ian Stewart said.

“The QPS is now recognised internationally for being technologically advanced and years ahead of other law enforcement agencies around the world. I look forward to watching the MCC continue to increase and improve the mobile capability available to officers.”
