Qld police receive QLite capability

A new QLite capability has been rolled out for Queensland police officers, meaning they will not need to spend as much time behind their desks.

The system enables officers to capture good order offences as they take place.

“The QLiTE and these additional capabilities mean that our frontline staff spend less time behind their desks doing paperwork and more time in our communities doing what they do best — keeping us safe,” said Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Paul Taylor said the new QOccurrences good order capability was currently being trialled on QLiTE devices in North Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns safe night precincts.

The new capability will be rolled out to other districts from 1 July this year.

“Our officers equipped with QLiTE devices will have the ability to issue banning notices and move on directions on the spot, and update the Queensland Police Service’s records systems immediately,” Taylor said.

“We’ve already seen a number of good order offences created on the program. These are occurrences that jeopardise the wellbeing of others or cause a public nuisance.”

Previously, a police officer had to return to their station and document an offence to record it in QPS systems.

“The reporting delay could mean that if another officer came across the same offender, they may be unaware of the offence they committed earlier that day,” Taylor said.

“Now both repeat and first-time offenders can be identified as well as processed on the spot.”

Good order offences in safe night precincts can include public urination, disorderly and offensive behaviours, public drunkenness, violent alcohol-fuelled behaviours and damage to public property.

These applications provide real-time, in-the-field access to timely and accurate information.
