Proofpoint email security tools pass IRAP assessment

Cybersecurity company Proofpoint has completed an Infosec Registered Assessors Program (IRAP) assessment for its email protection solutions. Proofpoint Email Protection can now be used to manage classified government data at the Protected level.

The certification will allow Proofpoint to better support its public sector customers in Australia with its email security solutions, which are designed to defend against phishing, malware and social engineering attacks. The solutions are also designed to help safeguard organisations against business email compromise attacks that attempt to steal data and money.

Proofpoint Area VP for Australia and New Zealand Crispin Kerr said achieving IRAP certification demonstrates the company’s commitment to helping government agencies modernise their cybersecurity posture in line with the Australian Cyber Security Strategy 2023–2030.

“Following the launch of Australian data centres last year, achieving IRAP Protected assessment is another important milestone for Proofpoint. We are excited to extend our expertise and solutions to more public sector customers, ensuring their most critical security vector — email — is protected with our leading solutions,” he said.

Proofpoint’s 2024 Voice of the CISO Report found that an estimated 74% of public sector CISOs agree that their organisation is at risk of a material cyber attack in the next 12 months, with email fraud seen as the biggest threat (61%).

Meanwhile 78% of CISOs in the public sector believe human error is their organisation’s greatest cyber vulnerability. To mitigate this, 87% of public sector CISOs are considering deploying AI-powered capabilities to protect their organisations against human error and advanced human-centred cyberthreats. This aligns with Proofpoint’s recently announced expanded capacities to help organisations more effectively manage human risk, Kerr said.
