DTO poaches PM&C's CIO Radi Kovacevic

There have been a number of recent high-profile IT appointments at state and federal government agencies, including the Digital Transformation Office (DTO).

ITNews reports that the DTO has poached the former CIO of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet Radi Kovacevic.

In his new role Kovacevic will act as second-in-command for the government's gov.au online service, working under an as yet unappointed senior executive.

Kovacevic served as PM&C's CIO since May, and his departure has left the department searching for a replacement.

The Department of Human Services has separately hired former NAB executive John Murphy to lead up the department's welfare payments infrastructure transformation project.

Murphy will join the department on 22 February and help oversee the replacement of the 30-year-old mainframe-based system currently used to calculate and pay welfare payments. The DHS and Centrelink currently rely on the ageing system to process around $100 billion worth of payments every year.

Finally, Victorian state-owned public health operator Barwon Health has promoted former director of health informatics Sharon Hakkennes to the role of CIO.

Hakkennes joined Barwon Health in March, and prior to this has worked in the healthcare industry for over 20 years.

She is replacing Ann Larkins, who left last year to become executive director of information development at Alfred Health.
