Queensland Rail to use Quintiq software to manage fleet
Queensland Rail has contracted Dassault Systemes’ Quintiq to help manage its expanded fleet of trains as part of a major investment in expanding its commuter services.
The software will be used to support Queensland Rail’s planned Integrated Train Operating Solution (ITOPS), which will be used to manage its existing train fleet as well as the soon-to-be-introduced New Generation Rollingstock (NGR) fleet.
The NGR fleet will be 75 new six-car trains. The project also involves the construction of a new maintenance centre to service the trains for the next 30 years.
NGR is the largest single investment by Queensland in trains. The fleet will be used to improve commuter services for the densely populated areas of South East Queensland.
As part of the project, Queensland Rail has established a new rail management centre to help manage its growing fleet. Quintiq software will be used to provide electronic train graphs and dynamic timetabling and fleet allocation capabilities.
“The ITOPS Project really is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to provide our organisation with the tools we need for the future. It will be an exciting journey that will enhance our operational efficiency and optimise customer outcomes,” Queensland Rail COO Kevin Wright said.
