WA overhauling water management system
The WA Department of Water is nearing completion of a major IT contract to modernise its water management systems to meet an environment of growing demand and dwindling water supplies.
The department is deploying Water Online, an integrated platform being provided by NEC Australia, to replace its legacy water management and information systems.
With the new platform, the department will be able to monitor development needs to accurately predict gaps between supply and demand. When necessary, these issues will be addressed with water supply controls.
As part of the project, the department has also launched an online portal allowing customers to access licensing information, submit applications and meter readings, and apply to renew or transfer a licence. Request for planning advice can also be lodged and tracked online.
The project commenced in 2014 and is projected to be complete by the third quarter of this year.
NEC has been providing program management services, business analysts, developers and testers to implement a set of Microsoft technologies based on .Net, Dynamics CRM 2015 and Business Intelligence.
“Everyone involved in this program is making a valuable contribution, knowing that this will help the Department of Water protect a vital resource for the state’s long-term future,” NEC Australia State Manager for WA TIm Hurst said.
“We’re also pleased our methodology and agile approach has proven to be very effective.”
