Councils recognised at MAV Tech Awards

Several councils have been recognised for innovative practices at the Municipal Association of Victoria’s (MAV) Technology Awards for Excellence.

These awards were held at MAV’s ‘Riding the Wave’ Technology Conference in Geelong.

They celebrate the efforts and achievements of local government and their groundbreaking approaches to information and communications technology solutions.

The award winners included:

Smart City Achievement of the Year

  • Winner: City of Ballarat for 'Right to the Night'
     

Strategy and Planning Achievement of the Year

  • Winner: City of Melbourne for 'GovCare'
     

Customer Experience Achievement of the Year

  • Winner: Glen Eira City Council for 'Footpath Trading Permits'
     

Collaboration or Partnership of the Year

  • Winner: Glen Eira City Council for 'Digitising High Priority Transactions'
     

Victorian Achievement of the Year

  • Winner: City of Melbourne for 'GovCare'
     

Australian Achievement of the Year

  • Winner: City of Melbourne for 'GovCare'
     

Cr Coral Ross, President of the MAV, said that councils were demonstrating innovative technology solutions for transforming both their business operations and community service delivery.

“The foresight demonstrated in these initiatives had significant positive outcomes for communities, and other councils will greatly benefit from the knowledge and sharing of these best practice projects,” she said.

“We congratulate all our finalists and winners for these innovative benefits and look forward to improving our sector’s design, delivery and service provision with further digitisation of the sector.”

The winning projects included the creation of an open source common data platform for use by governments, streamlined digital solution for time-consuming manual customer transactions and using geospatial data to map and improve community safety.
