LaunchVic issues start-up guide for councils

LaunchVic has issued a new start-up guide and toolkit to help local governments support and develop their local start-up communities.

The package includes how-to guides for hackathons, meetups, makerspaces and supporting start-up pitching, start-up needs at various stages of their development, funding guidelines for start-up initiatives and other key information.

LaunchVic will also provide a new round of grants worth up to $100,000 for local councils for one-year programs aimed at assisting start-ups, such as meetup groups, mentoring programs and hackathons.

Applications for the sixth round of grant funding will be open until 22 March. Joint submissions from multiple councils will be considered and may be eligible for more than $100,000 in funding.

“Start-ups will play a huge role in the future economy of Victoria, both in the city and in the regions, so we need to support regional start-ups however we can,” Victorian Minister for Innovation and the Digital Economy Philip Dalidakis said.

“We’re making it fair for regional Victorians by giving them access to the same education and resources that those in the city have.”
