NSW's Berrigan Shire Council deploying solar tech
NSW’s Berrigan Shire Council has adopted an innovative solar charging technology from startup PowerStack at key sites including Barooga Adventure Park and the Botanical Gardens.
The council has installed PowerStack’s modular solar poles to power lighting, security cameras and wireless charging stations at the locations, which also include Finlay Park and Railway Park.
The deployment uses architectural luminaires supplied by BuckFords Illumination Group for lighting, security tools from Axis Communications and a managed LTE router from Permacon for communications.
The project comprises 32 poles in total. Deployment has now commenced.
PowerStack’s off-grid solar system uses vertical glassless solar cells and can be deployed without the need for trenching, cabling or utility approvals. The technology was designed in Australia and is also being exported to the US.
PowerStack co-founding director Nathan Giblett said the deployment with Berrigan Shire Council is one of a number of projects the company is involved in with local councils.
“With PowerStack … we wanted to provide a quicker, easier and more cost-effective way to get powered infrastructure into communities, and of course being totally off-grid it’s a sustainable power source that can be up and running in minutes,” he said.
“We’re really excited to work with Berrigan Shire Council and looking forward to working on new uses and applications with them to benefit the Berrigan Shire community in future.”
