Telstra joins ANZ smart cities council
Telstra has joined the Smart Cities Council Australia New Zealand (SCCANZ) to help contribute to improving the livability, workability and sustainability of cities in the region.
As a member of the council, Telstra will help government, private sector developers and businesses pursue digital transformation.
Telstra is joining major vendors including Microsoft, IBM, Cisco, China’s ZTE, Ruckus Wireless, GE’s Current and Schneider Electric on the council.
SCCANZ Executive Director Adam Beck said Telstra’s involvement will be a major boost for smart cities initiatives in Australia.
“Telstra is already using technology, data and intelligent design to shape products and services for our cities now, and present the best possible opportunities to augment sustainable growth in the future,” he said.
“Telstra’s leadership team understands that smart technology and data-driven decision-making play a mission-critical role in accelerating the sustainability of our cities, towns and regions.”
Telstra Smart Cities Lead Merrick Spain added that the company is excited to be working with a global organisation with shared smart city values.
“Building better, and smarter, cities means having people at the very heart of our digital and data decision-making,” he said. “Together, we can have a greater impact on the sustainability and livability of our cities as they grow.”
He said Telstra has been a pioneer in smart cities initiatives, and recently launched a new Internet of Things lab to allow developers to test and prototype IoT solutions using technologies including drones, wearables, 3D printers and diagnostic tools.
