Andrew Stevens reappointed as Data Standards Chair
The government has reappointed Andrew Stevens as the Data Standards Chair, from 14 August 2021 until 28 February 2023. Stevens’ reappointment will enable him to continue his contribution to the implementation of the Consumer Data Right (CDR) regulatory framework, through the making of technical and consumer experience standards. CDR Standards facilitate safe and secure rails for consumers to access, and consent to, sharing of their data with trusted and accredited third parties.
The CDR is a transformative economic reform, supporting the digitalisation of Australian businesses and empowering customers to make better-informed choices about products and services by providing access to the data that businesses hold about them, helping them save time and money through enhanced competition and innovation. Stevens was first appointed to the role in 2018, and brings a wealth of industry experience to the role as the former managing director of IBM Australia and current Chair of the Industry, Innovation and Science Australia Board.
Stevens’ reappointment will provide continuity and expert advice to support the rollout of the CDR across the economy. The CDR is currently in a period of multi-sector expansion, with consumers benefiting from sharing banking data. The energy sector is forecast to follow suit soon, with processes underway to assess and designate telecommunications as the third sector.
