Data-tokenisation gateway keeps Salesforce.com cloud data onshore
Cloud-computing consultancy Coretec has targeted Australian government agencies by partnering with cloud data-protection vendor PerspecSys to deliver a Salesforce.com cloud offering that addresses privacy and data-sovereignty regulations by keeping data anchored within Australia or New Zealand.
The integration of PerspectSys's Cloud Data Protection Gateway with Coretec's Salesforce.com offerings allows organisations to intercept sensitive information before it leaves the organisation. Data is tokenised and the tokens stored in the cloud instead – ensuring that data protection obligations can be met.
"In order to help businesses take advantage of the huge benefits of the cloud, we knew we needed to give them the tools to do it securely and within increasingly stringent privacy and residency laws," said Paul Evans, Director of Business Consulting at Coretec in a statement.
"We reviewed a lot of solutions and they all had usability and security tradeoffs despite claims that they don't. PerspecSys deliver the highest levels of security along with full data control and SaaS application functionality. Together, we're giving Salesforce.com customers the best of both worlds."
Strict management of the location of data is becoming increasingly important as tighter regulations – for example, the Privacy Act amendments due to come into force in March 2014 – seek to maintain order in the increasingly decentralised cloud-data world. By tokenising that data, then encrypting it onsite, the system is able to maintain control over the data inhouse, while seamlessly maintaining access to the full range of Salesforce.com services.
"Organisations in Asia and Europe contemplating cloud adoption quickly find themselves struggling with compliance with regulations requiring data to stay resident within a defined geography," said David Canellos, CEO of PerspecSys, also in a statement.
"What they need is more control. We're excited to be working with Coretec to give enterprises a solution that removes barriers and re-establishes data control. With Coretec's Salesforce consulting expertise and our technology, we can help enterprises and government agencies future-proof against shifting regulatory and compliance requirements by giving them a data residency and privacy solution that enables them to enjoy the full benefits of the cloud."
