A/NZ infra projects named finalists in global awards

Four infrastructure projects from Australia and New Zealand have been named as finalists in the 2023 Going Digital Awards in Infrastructure, being held by infrastructure engineering software company Bentley Systems Incorporated.

The annual awards program is open to users of Bentley software for advancing infrastructure design, construction and operations throughout the world, with a panel of 12 jury members selecting 36 finalists across 12 award categories.

WSP Australia has been named a finalist in the Bridges and Tunnels category for the Parkdale level crossing removal project, which involved designing an elevated rail line in a narrow rail corridor near heritage sites.

Using Bentley’s open modelling applications to establish a digital twin to meet project objectives, the team was able to reduce bridge materials by 7% and the project’s carbon footprint by 30%.

Likewise, Laing O’Rourke has been named as a finalist for the Surrey Hills Level Crossing Removal Project, which is using Bentley software to reduce the risk of clashes by 75% and scheduling errors by 40%.

The Port Authority of New South Wales has meanwhile been named a finalist In the facilities, campuses and cities category for a case study involving creating a digital twin representation of its physical assets.

Finally, New Zealand’s OceanaGold is a finalist in the Subsurface Modelling and Analysis category for a project to develop 3D geological and geotechnical models and a digital twin to validate the use of digital applications for safer, more effective management of its Waihi Tailings Storage Facility.
