Awards open for govt agencies
The National Archives of Australia is inviting Commonwealth agencies to nominate their innovative digital projects for the 2017 Awards for Digital Excellence.
Winners will be selected from case studies that demonstrate progress towards meeting the government’s Digital Continuity 2020 targets, which include ensuring that all agency interactions, decisions and authorisations are recorded digitally by the end of that year.
The targets also call for agencies to meet targets for professionally accredited information managers and ensuring that information is managed based on format and metadata standards for improved governance and interoperability.
“Complementing the recently announced chief information governance officer (CIGO) role, this year an additional award category will recognise an outstanding individual within the Australian Public Service who has championed information management reform,” National Archives Director General David Fricker said.
The CIGO role will be a senior position within government departments tasked with establishing the culture for a more accountable and business-focused information management environment.
Last year’s winning entries included a project from the National Blood Authority to develop a smartphone app for 6500 Australians with bleeding disorders such as haemophilia.
Electronic document and records management system projects from the Office of the Fair Work Ombudsman, nbn co, the ANU and the Department of Social Services were also among last year’s winners.
Applications for the awards program are open until the end of February next year.
