Central Coast black spots to be covered
The federal and NSW Governments will jointly invest $16 million to improve mobile services along the Central Coast rail line.
The project will utilise $12 million in federal funding and a further $4 million from the NSW Government. The governments plan to work with mobile operators and infrastructure providers to remove the coverage black spots.
Expressions of interest are being sought for the project to upgrade mobile infrastructure along a 60 km stretch of rail line between Wyong and Hornsby. A formal tender process will commence by the end of the year.
In addition to improved mobile coverage, the total project will also introduce Wi-Fi at stations for the up to 30,000 daily Central Coast commuters. A separate request for tender for the Wi-Fi component of the project will be conducted by the NSW Government.
“Mobile drop outs and black spots are incredibly frustrating for commuters along the Central Coast Line, and the Turnbull Government is delivering on its election commitment to fix the problem,” communications minister Mitch Fifield said.
