Data61 data fellowships available
Applications are now being accepted for the first round of Data Fellowships with CSIRO’s Data61. The fellowships will provide training for public sector data specialists.
The program is an initiative within the Australian Public Service (APS) Data Skills and Capability Framework.
Assistant Minister for Cities and Digital Transformation Angus Taylor said there was a need to improve data skills and capability across the APS.
“The fellowships are a partnership with Australia’s largest data innovation group, Data61,” Assistant Minister Taylor said.
“Each year, up to 10 APS staff will be selected to undertake three-month placements to address a data-related challenge.”
The Assistant Minister said that the project is an “amazing opportunity” to work alongside some of the country’s best researchers and engineers from Data61, and their partner organisations, to further develop their skills.
“Data skills are critical for developing evidence-based policy, which is so important in improving the lives of Australians,” Assistant Minister Taylor said.
Applications for the Data Fellowships will close on 22 September, with placements given to successful applicants from mid-October.
The program is open to those who work in a wide range of jobs that deal with data, such as data analytics, policy, information security or service delivery.
