Department of Agriculture modernises TAMS system
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has partnered with Microsoft solutions partner Avanade to modernise its Traveller and Mail System (TAMS) mobile and desktop applications.
Under the project, a revamped TAMS mobile and desktop application have been developed using a mix of Canvas and Microsoft Power Apps.
The TAMS system is used to record outcomes of assessments, inspections and goods and non-compliance activities digitally. The upgraded applications are being used to replace a manual screening and inspection system, which was a time-consuming process that often slowed down passengers’ entry into Australia.
The modernised application expedites the incoming passenger screening process. It is now being used by nearly 500 biosecurity officers across eight Australian international airports.
The revamped processes streamline entry for compliant passengers while allowing officers to more effectively and rapidly respond to emerging threats and needs. The new TAMS system allows for simplified, real-time reporting capabilities to help further improve back-end processes.
Meanwhile officers are now able to digitally communicate with each other to coordinate biosecurity responses and further facilitate efficient risk assessment and outcomes.
Avanade is now also working with the department to develop another application for screening incoming mail and parcels to further enhance Australia’s biosecurity measures.
