GE Healthcare to deploy Qld cardiovascular info system

Medical technology company GE HealthCare has won the bid to deliver a statewide cardiovascular information system for Queensland Health.

Under the contract, GE HealthCare will work with partners at eHealth Queensland to deploy its Centricity Cardio Enterprise solution across 11 cardiac catheter laboratories and 20 echocardiography facilities across 11 of the state’s hospital and health services.

The rollout is expected to commence in mid-2024 and take 18 months to complete. Once fully rolled out, the platform will be used to manage the more than 25,000 diagnostic and interventional procedures performed at cardiac catheter labs and over 124,000 imaging studies performed by echocardiography departments across the state.

GE Healthcare was selected for the project following a rigorous evaluation process involving 200 mostly clinician and technical expert stakeholders.

GE Healthcare CEO Armit Yadav said the deployment represents an Australian first. “This will be the first time in Australia that a statewide solution is rolled out for cardiology-related services — from cath labs to echocardiogram clinics,” he said.

“Our CCE solution will provide a streamlined patient journey for cardiac care, less waiting time on appointments and referrals, and a new and welcomed era for remote patient assessments for people living in rural Queensland communities.”

He said the deployment builds on the Queensland Government’s multibillion-dollar health expansion program, which aims to remove bottlenecks, and improve access and efficiencies in the healthcare system.

“By freeing up vital resources for doctors and nurses, the CCE solution will hugely benefit cardiologists and cardiac scientists working across Queensland’s public health facilities,” Yadav said.

“Cardiologists and cardiovascular staff will be able to provide better patient care through full clinical access, improved productivity and standardised work practices.”
